Criminal Minds Replaces Thomas Gibson With Damon Gupton, a Change Only Americas Keenest Investiga

Damon Gupton.

Finally, the calm that comes with watching a new deranged killer every week without worrying about backstage drama can return to Criminal Minds–viewing households across the land. Damon Gupton, of Bates Motel and Empire, will replace Thomas Gibson on CBS’s Criminal Minds, after Gibson was booted from the show for an on-set altercation in which he allegedly kicked a writer. Gupton will play special agent Stephen Walker, a “seasoned profiler” who will bring his special skills to the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit starting on episode eight of season 12 (the season’s upcoming second episode, which airs Wednesday, will be Gibson’s last on the show; it’s unclear how he’ll be written out). Adam Rodriguez also recently joined the cast of the show after Shemar Moore left the series, and Paget Brewster is also set to return after Gibson’s exit. Perhaps in a future episode they will dig into the mind of one Tommy Wilson, an actor who turns against his loving writers room for reasons no one fully understands.
